Margo Villarosa and Kayla Moorer are co-authors on a paper accepted for publication in the Journal of Ethnicity and Substance Abuse. The found a relationship between enhancement drinking motives (to feel good) and typical alcohol consumption, harmful drinking and negative consequences in a sample of African American College student drinkers. They also found that protective behavioral strategies mediated these relationships. Their work highlights the importance of exploring drinking behaviors with groups in addition to between groups.
