Saarah Kison, a fifth year doctoral student, successfully defended her dissertation today. She explored the degree to which prevention and promotion regulatory focus and resistance to peer influence explained the relationship between parenting styles and alcohol use behaviors. Saarah will be a postdoctoral fellow at the Bay Pines VA in Florida. Congrats Saarah!!
Danielle Cottonham, a third year doctoral student, received a research grant from the University of Southern Mississippi Committee on Services and Resources for Women to support her dissertation research. Danielle plans to examine the links between racial and sexual discrimination, psychological distress, spirituality and safe and risky alcohol use and sexual behaviors among African American female college drinkers.
Lisa Brackeen and Lauren Gardner's proposals to present at the 2016 Southern Miss Undergrad Research Symposium have been accepted. Lisa is a sophomore member of the BAR Lab who looking at the links between alcohol use, alcohol-related negative consequences, protective behavioral strategies and drink refusal self-efficacy. Lauren is a junior member of the BAR Lab who is looking at the moderating effects of drinking context on the relationship between harmful drinking and risky sex. Congratulations!
Mary Anne Messer a 2015 master's alum of the BAR Lab has accepted a position in the doctoral program at Auburn University. Congratulations Mary Anne!
